President's Session

Regulatory and Ethical Aspects of Cord Blood and Birthing Tissues as Starting Materials for Manufacture of Cellular and Regenerative Therapies

Join us for the annual CBA President’s Session where Dr. Joanne Kurtzberg will host presentations and discussion with Jeremy Sugarman, MD, Harvey M. Meyerhoff Professor of Bioethics & Medicine, Johns Hopkins University, and Peter Marks, MD PhD, Director of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, FDA 

The session will cover the emerging uses for cord blood and related birthing tissues in the manufacture of immune effector cells and regenerative therapies. Some of these products are immortalized and others are commercialized. Questions about the ethical requirements for informed consent, access to materials banked decades ago, information about commercialization, and the regulatory standards for use as starting material for manufacturing will be addressed.
